Project Metro begins

The Metro was a well known shopping trolley in it's day. Visit the supermarket and there would be people everywhere loading their groceries into the small boot. Today, the majority of them have rusted away. We, however, have discovered a time warp. It's a 1983 Austin Metro with a modest 60,000 miles on the clock. It's been sitting in the garage for the last 13 years, so it needs tidying up a bit.

As we opened the garage door, we realised what a massive task we'd set ourselves in for. The car was dirty, and I mean very dirty. The first thing we needed to do was get it out of the garage. It needed a new fuel pipe so wouldn't run, so it had to be pushed out. Unfortunately the brakes had seized, so it wouldn't budge an inch. Stevo insisted on looking up in the Haynes manual what to do, but I ignored Matt and Stevos shouts as I hit the rear wheels with a hammer. They were worried I was going to break Project Metro. I didn't break her, and my plan worked, the car now moved. Unfortunately the garage was blocked so we couldn't get it out of the garage. We decided to try and clean Project Metro inside the garage.

paintwork came up a treat. Thanks to it being stored inside, it wIt's amazing was a bit of water can do. The redas not at all faded, and even the black plastic trim looked good. There was also very little rust which is rare for a Metro of this age. We decided not to clean the inside today, as it was actually in very good condition.

After giving her a good clean, we decided to work out what needed doing to her. As mentioned first, it needed a new fuel pipe. Luckily, this wasn't in an awkward position, it was just under the bonnet. When we find a fuel pipe it should be easy to fit. The car also needs a new battery. We managed to get it working without, and all the electrics worked. This with the tidy body work could mean we'll have a fantastic car once it's been tidied up for a bit.
